“Welcome to Thanksgiving worship. Together, let us express our sincere gratitude to God, the giver of every good and perfect gift."
An Episcopal minister, Robert Shahan, was recovering in a hospital after heart surgery. He rang for the nurse and asked her to please bring him some ice.
“I have a choice for you,” the nurse said. “You can either have a new BMW or some ice chips. Quickly, he said, “Ice!”
The nurse replied, “Don’t ever forget that.”
Shahan says that was a good reminder of the importance of life’s little things. Now he tries to always be thankful — even for such common things as ice or a glass of water.
THANKSGIVING
“There are three kinds of giving:
grudge giving, duty giving and thanksgiving.
Grudge giving says, ‘I have to’;
duty giving says, ‘I ought to’;
and thanksgiving says, ‘I want to.’
The latter comes from a full heart.
Thanksgiving is an open gate
into the love of God.”
—Robert N. Rodenmayer
“A cheerful heart is good medicine” Proverbs 17:22
A turkey farmer was always experimenting with breeding to perfect a better turkey. His family was fond of the leg portion for dinner and there were never enough legs for everyone. After many frustrating attempts, the farmer was relating the results of his efforts to his friends at the general store get together. "Well I finally did it! I bred a turkey that has 6 legs!"
They all asked the farmer how it tasted.
"I don't know" said the farmer. "I've never been able to catch the thing!"
Why did the turkey cross the road?
…It was the chicken's day off.
