The men’s group will meet at the OutPost to study Tony Dungy’s Quiet Strength.

The women will meet at the parsonage to watch Beth Moore’s video, Jesus the One and Only.

That the world may know is an inspiring and informing video of biblical times. This presentation gives a greater understanding of the scriptures in the Old and New Testaments. You’ll not be disappointed. The evening service begins at 6:00.

Our teens will leave for Olivet Regional Celebrate Life early Thursday morning. They are in need of funds due to gas prices and other expenses. If you wish to help our seven teens (Derek, Sarah, Tyler, Cierra, Cheyanne, Ashley, Skyler, Chloe) go to Olivet for Celebrate Life, May 8 – 10, mark your donation “NYI- Celebrate Life.”

Mother’s Day is our time to give special recognition to those special people in our lives who are most influential.
We’ll be honoring our mothers next Sunday during the morning worship service.

We are missionary people

who take great joy in Jesus’ Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations. This includes supporting missionaries whom God has called. We have received $1,807 towards our goal of $2,000. We can reach our goal for Christ’s sake. We cannot live and give for a greater cause than to reach the world with the good news of Christ. We have only a little more than $250 to reach our goal.

Women of Faith Retreat is August 1 & 2. The ladies of our church thoroughly enjoyed last year’s event. You don’t know how much you need this time of renewal until after you go. Those ladies who plan to go this year need to get their money to Nikki Merrill.

Recycle your computer printer cartridges Bring your used cartridges to the church and place them in the white box in the foyer for the daycare fundraiser.

The Birth of Mother’s Day

Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948) loved her mother dearly. It was Miss Jarvis who first suggested a national day to honor all mothers. At a memorial service for her mother on May 10, 1908, Anna gave a carnation, her mother’s favorite flower, to each person in attendance. Within a few years, the idea to honor mothers gained popularity, and Mother’s Day was soon observed annually in many large cities of the United States.

On May 9, 1914, by an act of congress, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day. He established the day as a time for “public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.” By then, it had become customary to wear white carnations in honor of departed mothers and red carnations to honor the living. The custom continues to this day.

The Bible gives the greatest way to honor mother. Proverbs 31:28 states, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her...”
