Why Christians
Must Vote
Tuesday America goes to the polls to cast their ballot for the next President of the United States and other officials who will make up the Senate and Congress.
According to the Scriptures, it is our sacred duty to cast the ballot for those who will be in authority. The Bible states that God endorses governing authorities. It is the ordinance of God to establish government for the purpose of rewarding good and punishing evil. “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil” (Romans 12:10). Rulers are “God’s ministers to execute wrath on him who practices evil” (Romans 12:4b).
The founding documents of our nation guarantee the right of the citizens a voice in the selection of their leaders. Since Scripture endorses government, it stands to reason that we are to support the same with respect and good citizenry.
It would be great if God were to select our leaders, but this choice is left to us. We may not like the candidates available but that doesn’t excuse our absence from being involved with the political process. We have been given the right to choose our leaders closest to our values.
Voting straight ticket may not be the best way to select a leader. Each candidate may follow the party line but there is room for individual values, character, and integrity. These are the most important ingredients that foster trust within the citizens.
Regardless of the outcome Tuesday, it’s up to us to help the Kingdom of God advance within the kingdoms of men. Do your duty and select the one whom you believe will reflect God’s kingdom come through Christ Jesus our Lord.

A candidate and his wife fell into the hotel bed at the end of a long day on the campaign trail.
“I’m exhausted,” groaned the wife.
“I think I have more right to be exhausted than you do,” complained the candidate. “I delivered six speeches in six towns today.”
“And I had to listen to the same message six times,” his wife replied.

Thanksgiving is the time for family, food, and football. We have a lot to enjoy in this season of harvest. We have enjoyed an abundance of excellent weather and harvest. Automatically we sense gratitude to God for all He has blessed us with. One way our church expresses its gratitude is giving towards our annual Thanksgiving Offering. Sharing the good news of God’s Son comes from a heart of thanks.
